Family Centres - Early Childhood Education

Family Centres
Overview

Living and Learning puts a very high value on children and families and this determines the way we think and act within our early childhood centres.

The centres have separate rooms for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.  However, there are regular opportunities provided for interactions between all the age groups, which is particularly important when there are children attending from the same family.

We like to ensure that we foster each child’s emotional development in a way that encourages them to feel comfortable, settled and valued as individuals.  Our teachers observe the children in their care and plan activities throughout the week that are based on the children’s individual strengths and interests.  Children are given the opportunity to participate in a range of fun activities including numeracy, literacy, science, extended outdoor experiences, phonics, home reading, creative arts, music, drama and visual arts and more.

Through their involvement in these activities, children -

1. Learn how to communicate
2. Develop social and participation skills
3. Learn about turn taking
4. Develop their fine motor and manipulative skills
5. Develop their concentration skills

Through small group activities and self directed opportunities children are encouraged to question, enquire, research and become independent learners.

The Living and Learning Foundation is committed to creating authentic and integrated environments targeted to meet the needs of children and their families.

All of this will give the children in our care the best possible start and equip them for their next big step - starting school.

Wrap around family services are also an important feature of our centres.  To find out what services are available, please click on to the individual centres for more information.
